AN EXPENSIVE SERVICE CALL WHICH WAS OF NO VALUE. THE SERVICE AGENT WAS FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS BUT JUST INFORMED ME THAT A NEW UNIT WAS ONLY SOLUTION. I HAD A LATER AGENT QUOTE Me A PRICE TO INSTALL A NEW UNIT THAT WAS $2000. higher than a later quote from a local plumber for a peerless boiler that has a thicker block and same items in your quote, minus any installment payments. I've had you replace my central air conditioning system several years ago and I pay for a yearly service plan. I believe since no attempt to fix boiler or be given a repair option, I should not be charged for a full service call. The plumber who responded to my call was able to repair the boiler by replacing the circulating pump which had shorted due to water leaking into circuitry from corrudted seals.

Mr. Patalita, Our service technician evaluated your 35 year old Hydrotherm natural gas water boiler and quickly concluded that your boiler is obsolete. The reason it is considered obsolete is first and foremost its age. At 35 years old the boiler is economically and functionally well past its expected lifespan. The second reason the boiler is considered to be obsolete is because Hydrotherm went out of business in 1991. The company's assets were sold to Mestek, Inc. in 1991 where Hydrotherm boilers were immediately discontinued as a product line. There are no longer key replacement parts or base boiler blocks available for this boiler. The circulator pump that failed on your boiler is an independent component added to all boilers and as such can be repaired or replaced. A new boiler would include a new circulator pump so when investing in a new boiler you would automatically be receiving a new pump with a new warranty. When our service technician was told by you that you were interested in obtaining a price for a new boiler our technician scheduled that appointment for you at no charge to you. In that you were not satisfied with our service diagnosis we are happy to return to you the full fee you paid for the service call. During the service call you purchased two water alarms from out technician so that in the event of a water leak you would be immediately alerted. Please keep the two water alarms as our gift to you. Your check will be put into the mail first thing in the morning. Thank you for informing us of your thoughts regarding our service call.
